Voting is more than a right, it’s civic responsibility. It’s how we shape the future of our schools, our roads, our communities, and our country. It offers an opportunity to hold leaders accountable, and ensure that government truly reflects the will of the people.

While presidential and gubernatorial elections often get the spotlight, some of the most important decisions that impact daily life are made right here at home; by town councils, school boards, county commissioners, and state legislators. That’s why it’s so important to show up and vote in every election, at every level of government.

Whether you’re a first-time voter or a lifelong participant in our democracy, now is the time to make sure you’re ready for the next election. And in North Carolina, it’s easier than you might think.

Check Your Registration

If you have already registered, take a moment to confirm your voter information is accurate and up to date. A quick check now can save you time — and protect your voice — on Election Day.

Check Your Registration Status

You can update your voter registration information online or by mail to reflect a change of address, party affiliation, or name. Changes to your registration are due by the voter registration deadline, 25 days before Election Day.

In Person

There are several ways to register to vote in person in North Carolina:

  • At the DMV: If you’re an existing customer of the NC Division of Motor Vehicles, you can register to vote when you update your license or ID. You can do this online or in person at any DMV office.

  • At the County Board of Elections Office: You can register directly at your county’s Board of Elections office during regular business hours.

  • During Early Voting: If you miss the regular registration deadline, you can still register and vote at the same time during the Early Voting period. This is called same-day registration, and it’s available at any early voting site in your county.

Deadlines to Know
