At the Harnett County Democratic Party, our work is guided by a deep commitment to fairness, opportunity, and progress. We believe that democracy thrives when everyone has a voice, access to opportunity, and equal protection under the law.

These principles shape everything we do — and they drive our work to build a stronger, more inclusive Harnett County for all.

Our Core Principles

The Harnett County Democratic Party stands proudly on core Democratic values that guide our vision for a better America and a stronger local community:

Economic Equity

We believe the economy should work for everyone. We are committed to lowering costs for working families, investing in the middle class, and ensuring economic opportunity across Harnett County.

Healthcare as a Right

Healthcare is a fundamental right. We advocate for high-quality, accessible, and affordable healthcare for all — including a special focus on our veterans and addressing the growing need for mental health services among teens.

Strength in Diversity

We recognize that America's diversity is one of its greatest strengths. We celebrate and honor the richness of our multicultural community.

Defending Democracy

We believe democracy is worth defending. We prioritize transparency, accountability, voting rights, and the protection of democratic institutions at every level.

Our Local Commitments

At the Harnett County Democratic Party, we believe change starts at home. Real change doesn’t just happen in Washington — it happens in counties like ours, in communities like yours.

Our national values come to life through local action — in our schools, our healthcare systems, our environment, and our democracy.

We are committed to building a Harnett County that is stronger, fairer, and more inclusive.
These local priorities reflect our promise to deliver real progress where it matters most — and to create a community that truly works for everyone.

21st Century Education

We call on the North Carolina Legislature to increase funding for public schools and end the diversion of public education funds to private charter companies.
Note: Harnett County public schools have a math proficiency score of 34% (state average 42%) and a reading proficiency score of 41% (state average 47%), with an average school ranking of 4/10. (Public School Review, 2024)

Reproductive_Rights.jpg

Women’s Reproductive Rights

We support maintaining access to abortion up to 20 weeks without additional restrictions. We oppose barriers for women seeking reproductive healthcare, including those traveling from other states.

Redistricting.jpg

Independent Redistricting

We advocate for an independent, non-partisan redistricting commission to create fair voting maps — ending gerrymandering practices that undermine voter trust.

Voting_Rights.jpg

Voting Rights

We support maintaining fair and accessible election processes across North Carolina. We stand with efforts to restore voting rights for individuals on probation, parole, or post-release supervision, ensuring full reentry into civic life.

Economic_Growth.jpg

Economic Growth

We support initiatives that strengthen Harnett County’s economy, including investments in broadband, roads, infrastructure, clean energy, and resource protection — aligning with the goals of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

Environment.jpg

Environmental Protection

We urge the NC Legislature to take meaningful action to protect Harnett County’s environment, from flood resilience to safeguarding coastlines, wetlands, and mountain ecosystems.

Equal_Rights.jpg

Equal Treatment Under the Law

We believe in criminal justice reform that ensures fair and equal treatment for all citizens, especially addressing disparities that impact people of color. We support the recommendations of the Governor’s Task Force for Racial Equity in Criminal Justice.
