In late July 2025, two of Harnett County’s largest and fastest-growing voting precincts—Anderson Creek and Barbecue—will officially be split into four. This change, recently approved by the North Carolina State Board of Elections, aims to reduce long wait times and make voting more accessible.

The newly created precincts are:

  • Spout Springs (from Anderson Creek)

  • Overhills (from Barbecue)

With Anderson Creek previously serving over 12,000 voters and Barbecue nearly 16,500, this move helps ensure voters are distributed more evenly and can cast their ballots more efficiently.

These changes come after several months of public meetings and input, hosted by the Harnett County Board of Elections. Voters affected by the changes will receive updated precinct information and polling place assignments ahead of the next election.

Additional precinct adjustments include:

  • The merging of Central Harnett Lillington and Central Harnett Neill’s Creek into a single Central Harnett precinct.

  • The consolidation of East and West Averasboro into one Averasboro precinct.

These updates follow a series of public meetings hosted by the Harnett County Board of Elections to gather input and ensure transparency. Click here for a full summary of the changes is available on their official website.
