Victory for Justice Allison Riggs

Jefferson Griffin has finally conceded the NC Supreme Court race to Justice Allison Riggs — more than five months after voters made their voices heard. This is a victory for the rule of law, for democracy, and for every North Carolinian who refused to let a partisan power grab go unchallenged.

But let’s be clear: the damage done to our election process by Griffin and the Republican Party’s baseless stalling tactics cannot be ignored. They tried to sow doubt, discredit our democratic systems, and delay justice — all in the hopes of undermining the will of the people.

We didn’t let them.

We fought back in the courts, in the press, and in our communities. We stayed vigilant. We spoke up. And we won.

Now, we must turn this moment into momentum — because Griffin’s concession doesn’t erase the months of attacks on our electoral integrity. It doesn’t undo the dangerous precedent this stunt tried to set.

We must hold Griffin and the Republican Party accountable — and there are concrete actions we can take right now to make it clear this behavior was unacceptable:

  • Contact Jefferson Griffin directly. Let him know that his behavior attempted to erode trust in democracy — but it also eroded the trust in him and the Republican Party. It will not be forgotten.

  • Email your state legislators and demand stronger election protections — like clear timelines for certification, consequences for bad-faith challenges, and safeguards for judicial independence.
  • Push for oversight. Ask the NC State Bar and watchdog organizations to investigate whether judicial ethics were violated and what reforms are needed.
  • Use your voice. Write a letter to the editor, post on social media, and talk with friends and neighbors. The more public pressure, the stronger the message.
  • Organize and vote. Support candidates like Allison Riggs who stand for democracy, and remember this moment when you’re at the ballot box next time — especially if Griffin or his allies show up on it.

This fight isn’t over. But today, we celebrate a hard-earned win — not just for Justice Riggs, but for every voter in North Carolina who refused to let our democracy be hijacked.
